Abstract
120,046. Richer, H. P. Oct. 17, 1917, [Convention date]. Luggage holders.-A baggage-carrier for the rear of automobiles and other vehicles, adapted to be collapsed into the form of a box, is provided with a removable platform having its under surface constructed to fit on to the carrier, such platform receiving the luggage, or forming the bottom of a trunk of wood, metal, or basketwork; in the latter case, rollers are fitted underneath the trunk &c. The number plate and lamp bracket r may be attached to the rear side of the carrier, as indicated in Fig. 12. The carrier comprises a metal box, Fig. 3, the side a of which is bolted to the vehicle, while the side a<4> may be extended as shown in Fig. 4, being connected to the side a by folding cross-pieces d, d<1> hinged at d<2>, d<3>, d<4> and inclined pieces f, f<1> hinged at f<2>, g, g<1>. Springs h assist the movement. Storage recesses are formed at j, and a hinged lid a<1> is fitted. A platform m, Fig. 7, for fitting on to the, carrier, is formed underneath with #- or angle-irons n to engage the pieces f, f<1>, as shown in Fig. 10, and with wedges of wood n<1> in the corners formed by the irons n. The platform may be further secured by metal rods o passing through the parts a<4>, n<1>, n, f.
