Abstract

1,197,914. Joint-making packing. CUMMINS ENGINE CO. Inc. 26 July, 1967 [27 July, 1966], No. 34468/67. Heading F2B. [Also in Division F1] A cylinder liner 12 carries an elongated sealing ring 28 which engages against a ledge 31 on the block to seal a coolant cavity from the crankcase, the sealing ring groove 33 being inclined so that the ring is under maximum compresson at a point intermediate its length. The upper shoulder 32 of the ledge is bevelled to facilitate fitting of the liner 12 with its ring 28 into place. The ring 28 is of neoprene whilst supplementary 0-type sealing rings 26, 27 are of silicone rubber and buna-N respectively.
