Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the cooling water leakage and the generation of cavitating by a method wherein seal material is made into a two-layered laminate and the lower layer is made into a perfectly while the upper layer is made into a semihardened substance.
CONSTITUTION: When fixing a belt-shaped seal on the external circumferential surface of the cylinder liner 10, when the cylinder liner 10 is inserted into the bore 13 of the cylinder block 12, a masking tape is pasted on the external circumferential surface 10a of the liner 10 corresponding to the entrance 15a of a slit 15 formed between the liner 10 and the rising wall surface 14, and its exposed part is applied with puty-like silicon resin. Next, after removing the tape, the belt-like silicon resin is heated and hardened to form the perfect hardened substance 11. Next, the putty- like silicon resin is similarly applied on the perfect hardened substance 11 to form the semihardened substance to make it into the two layered laminate A. In the condition where said laminate A is fixed to the liner 10, the latter is inserted into the bore 13 to make it into the seal material B.
