A vertical conveyer 6 with a pick-up or delivery nozzle 13 for loading or unloading lump goods or loose flowable material into or from a boat 7, Fig. 1, is mounted on a yoke 4 pivotally connected at 23 with a lower jib 2 and at 21 with an upper jib 3, a parallelogram linkage being completed by a yoke 5 pivoted between 22 and 24. The jib 3 is pivoted at 22 on a frame 14, 14<SP>1</SP> mounted on crane-travel gearing 15, 16 on rails 9, 10 on a pier 8. The jib 3 may be luffed by a winch and cable 17, 18 and the pivot-pin 24 may be displaced relative to the frame 14 by a cable winch 20, 27. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), a jib (3<SP>1</SP>) is luffed by a winch and cable (17<SP>1</SP>, 18<SP>1</SP>) running from the top of a tower (26) or the crane frame to the end of the jib (3<SP>1</SP>). Fig. 3 shows a further embodiment wherein a jib 2<SP>1</SP> is above the jib 3 and, as it is under tension instead of in compression, it can be either a rod or a cable. It is not essential for the members 2, 3, 4, 5 to form a parallelogram and, in Fig. 3, the part 5<SP>1</SP> may be attached to the frame 14, the distance between points 23, 24 being continuously variable.
