Abstract

1,196,506. Clamping printing plates. ROLAND OFFSET MASCHINENFABRIK FABER & SCHLEICHER A.G. 26 July, 1968 [29 July, 1967], No. 35770/68. Heading B6C. Printing plate ends 4 (3 is not shown) are clamped in the longitudinal gap 1 of a forme cylinder 2 by identical mechanisms. Each comprises a clamping jaw 17 pivotable about an adjustable axis 18 and moved into plate clamping position by an eccentric rod operable from its ends. The axis 18 of the jaw 17 is mounted at the end of a threaded bolt in a tension bar 7 which also mounts a strip 26 which forms the lower clamping surface holding the plate end. This strip is moved into gripping position by a wedge rod 23, which is located between the bar 7 and the strip, when the bar 7 is moved in the peripheral direction of the cylinder through actuation of threaded bolts 13 so as to tension the printing plate. Thus plate tensioning simultaneously tightens the grip on the plate. Antifriction surfaces are provided between the eccentric rod 30 and the respective contacting surfaces of the jaw 17 and the bar 7, whilst a friction surface is provided on the upper surface of the strip 26. In a modified mechanism the rod 23 and the strip 26 form a unified structure.
