Abstract

1,194,377. Bedsteads. K. J. HURST. 26 July, 1968 [7 Aug., 1967], No. 36120/67. Heading A4J. In an invalid's bed, which may have provision for the insertion of a bed pan (BP, Fig. 2, not shown), a sectional mattress M1, M2 is carried on pivotally mounted frames 51 and 53, respectively, so that, on raising frame 51 about pivot P1, frame 53 is displaced and titled, on rollers R1, to prevent relative sliding motion of the patient's legs, along mattress section M2. Connecting arm A3 is rigidly fixed to frame 53 and pivoted at H1 to lever A2, which is pivoted, at P2, to the base frame F. Rollers R1 and R2 run in channels in the frames 53 and 51, respectively. A tension spring T1 acts on a strut L2, partially to counterbalance the weight of the patient and facilitate raising frame 51. To insert the bed pan, mattress section M2 is slid away and frame 52 lowered by swinging arm R4 to the left.
