Abstract

1,097,205. Invalids' beds. HORSTKEMPER GEBR. May 31, 1965 [May 30, 1964], No. 23048/65. Heading A4J. A bed for invalids has a bedstead portion 3, Fig. 2, provided with a spring system 6 which supports a frame consisting of an angled member 8 and a U-shaped member 9 surrounding an aperture 3a. Bedstead 3 is covered by a mattress 15 which is also apertured. The aperture in the mattress is normally filled by a bolster 24 supported on a plate 19 which is held in position beneath aperture 3a by catches 12a, 12b. The catches may be released by an actuator 12c and the bolster 24 and its plate 19 replaced by a plate 13 supporting a basin 20. A pivoted arm 21 is mounted at the foot of the bed and has frame 22 on to which the plates 13, 19 may be lowered by a foot-pump-operated telescopic air cylinder 14 after the catches are released. A sheet 16 covering the mattress has a tubular extension 17 which is drawn into aperture 3a and secured hermetically in a slot 11 between members 8, 9 of frame 7 by a circlip 18.
