Abstract
1,194,202. Clamps. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. 7 June, 1967 [7 June, 1966], No. 26208/67. Heading E2B. An assembly comprises two relatively adjustable components 10, 11 which are movable in relation to one another, said assembly including a rod 27 which is supported radially in a first one of said adjustable components 11 and engages in a guide slot 17 in the other, or second component, an annular clamping washer 31 being mounted on the rod with one face against the second component, and a tightening device 42 provided on one end of the rod, the other end of the rod being provided with an abutment 40, 41 by means of which tightening device a frictional connection between the two-components can be made simultaneously through 'both faces of the clamping washer, wherein the clamping washer is axially slidable on the rod and is mounted radially thereon substantially without play, the rod being radially movable with respect to its axis in relation to said first adjustable component and said first adjustable component presses against the clamping washer by means of mating surfaces 34, 35 provided on the other face of the clamping washer and the adjoining surface of the first adjustable component which produce a wedging action, through radially directed relative movements between said first adjustable component and the rod so that the clamping washer is pressed in the direction of the second adjustable component, whereby the frictional force exerted 'between said first and second components is intensified. In the construction shown the component 10 consists of a plate-like bracket 12 to which two pairs of guide rails 13 and 14 are welded parallel to one another and each has a said slot 17. Connected rigidly with the bracket 12 is a bearing block 18 which consists of two webs 19 welded to the bracket at the same distance apart as the distance between the pair of rails 13 and 14. A bearing bolt 20 is mounted in the webs 19 to receive a bearing bush 23 of the second component. The bush 23 is connected to two limbs 22 to form a U- shaped body, the free ends of the limbs being joined by a cross bar 22 from which a lever 25 projects, the free end of the lever being provided with a spherical grip 26 for swinging the second component about the bearing bolt 20. The second component also includes a sleeve 32 each end surface of which is part-spherical and provides a said mating surface 34. There are two of the clamping washers 36 and the motoring surface 35 of each is also partspherical. The sleeve 32 is contained in holes 33 in the limbs 22 and the sort 27 passes through the sleeve and the two washers 36. Beyond each washer 36 is a distance member 30 or 31 both received on the sort 27 and mounted on each distance member are two further clamping washers 43, 44, the washer 44 being in between the two rails of the corresponding pair of rails and the washer 43 being on the outside of the outermost rail; the washer 36 is on the inside of the innermost rail. Beyond each distance member is a cup spring 38 and a thrust bearing disc 39 and at one end of the bolt 27 is a pair of nuts 40, 41 providing said abutment and at the other end a wing nut 42, providing the tightening device, the arrangement being such that adjusting the wing nut brings the washers into engagement with the rails and the sleeve 32 so that as described above when an attempt is made to move the two components relative to each other the clamping force is intensified. Releasing the initial clamping pressure by the wing nut enable the two components to be moved relative to each other.
