Abstract

898,925. Bolted joints. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Sept. 12, 1960 [Sept. 11, 1959], No. 31285/60. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXV] A bolted joint comprises a pair of load-bearing members one of which 11 has an enlarged aperture 13 and the other 12 has an elongated aperture 17, the enlarged aperture being axially aligned with the elongated aperture, a bolt 16 which has a converse portion 19 and a locking member 22 which has a complementary concave recess 23 whereby the load-bearing members are deformed when the locking member is tightened, to prevent relative movement of the load-bearing members in a direction radial to said apertures. Surrounding the convex portion 19 under the head 16 of the bolt 18 is an annular flat surface 21 which co-operates with a flat surface 24 on the washer 22. The joint is locked by a nut 26. In a modification (Fig. 3) the concave recess 28 and the annular surface 29 are provided on the nut 31.
