Abstract
1,193,741. Lamp filaments. LAMP METALS Ltd. 12 Feb., 1969 [12 Feb., 1968], No. 6803/68. Heading H1F. [Also in Division D1] Stranded tungsten wire for use as the filament of an incandescent electric lamp and having a cross-sectional area equivalent to a single wire of diameter of at least 0À25 mm is composed of at least three constituent wires stranded together each having a diameter less than 0À25 mm and of a type designed to develop a long grain structure on heating above the recrystallization temperature of tungsten. Preferably all the constituent wires have the same diameter. Grain growth promoting additives such as potassium silicate and alumina are added to the tungsten. The lamp filaments may be straight lengths of stranded wire, or single or double coils; and are subjected to stress relieving or coil setting heat treatment before being cut to the required lengths.
