Abstract

1,192,353. Differential gear; clutch control. H. YOUNG (MOTORS) Ltd. 24 Aug., 1967 [26 May, 1966], No. 23689/66. Headings F2D and F2L. [Also in Division E1] In a self-propelled, rotary-brush road sweeping machine (see Division El), half shafts 24a, 24b connected by chains 100 to road wheels 2 are driven from a coaxial pulley 22a by differential belt gearing in a casing 90 fixed to the pulley 22a. The casing 90 supports two planetary pulleys 94 on a shaft 93 perpendicular to and spaced from the half-shaft axis, the planetary pulleys 94 being connected to opposed pulleys 95 on the half shafts by a single driving belt. The pulley 22a is driven by a pulley 14 on a spring-loaded arm 104, the driving belt 20 being slackened to disconnect the drive by actuation of a tie 108 controlled by a bar 110 adjacent a rear handlebar 6. In a modification, the planetary pulleys 94 are mounted on two parallel shafts which replace the single shaft 93.
