Abstract

1,192,264. Laminated wrapper for pipes. ROYSTON LABORATORIES Inc. 5 Feb., 1968 [5 Sept., 1967], No. 5735/68. Heading B5N. [Also in Division F2] A laminated wrapper for pipes comprises a strip 11 of mechanically strong material and a strip 12 of soft, conformable, adhesively pressure-sensitive elastomer, strip 12 projecting beyond strip 11 along one longitudinal edge, the other longitudinal edges of the strips being co-extensive. After peeling off a protective layer 13 of paper, the wrapper may be helically wound on a pipe 10, with the projecting edge 22 of strip 12 being covered by the succeeding coil of the wrapper. Alternatively, the wrapper may be applied to the pipe in the manner of a cigarette paper, Fig. 4 (not shown). The wrapper is water-repellent and electrically insulating. Strip 11 may be a polyolefin, e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene or polyethylene copolymer, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate; P.V.C.; a polyester, e.g. polycarbonate; polystyrene; nylon; cellulose acetate or cellulose butyrate. The adhesive strip 12 may be based on natural rubber, styrene butadiene rubber, butyl rubber, neoprene, nitrile rubber, polysulphide rubber or an ethylene-propylene copolymer. Examples of chemical formulations for the adhesive are given.
