In a modification of the invention of the parent Specification a yarn clamp 56 Fig. 5b draws the two yarns between the pins 8, 9 before or after they have been twisted together and after they have been cut by clamp and cutter 54 Fig. 5d whereafter the lifters 22, 23 ride up slits in guides 52, 53, Fig. 5e to draw the ends through the loop and to tighten the knot. Subsequently cutters 24, 25 sever the yarn ends close to the knot. Alternatively the yarns can be clamped and severed between the pins 8, 9 and roller clamps 26, 27 and 28, 29 by clamps 61, 62 and cutters 59, 60, Fig. 7b, whereafter the yarns are individually drawn by the clamps between the pins 89 in the same Fig. 7C<SP>1</SP> or opposite Fig. 7C<SP>1</SP> directions before or after the yarns have been twisted together. Subsequently the knot is raised and tightened by lifters 22, 23.
