Abstract

1,191,626. Laminated belts. RAYBESTOSMANHATTAN Inc. 24 Aug., 1967 [24 Aug., 1966], No. 37992/66. Heading B5N. [Also in Division F2] A method of making a belt comprises applying one or more layers of paper on to an unvulcanized rubber surface and then vulcanizing under pressure. The paper may be treated with a bonding agent and may be of purely cellulosic fibre, may contain a proportion of synthetic fibres, or may be composed entirely of synthetic fibres. Preferably the paper comprises thin tissues of cellulosic fibre which advantageously are crimped, or heavier papers or close-textured papers may be used. The weight of paper is preferably from 2 to 2À5 ounces per square yard. Vulcanization may take place in a ribbed or grooved mould. Under vulcanization pressure, the rubber flows around the fibres of the paper. The method is applicable to the making of V-belts and flat belts.
