Abstract

1,191,090. Colour anodizing aluminium. VEREINIGTE ALUMINIUM-WERKE A.G. April 21, 1969 [June 1, 1968], No.20315/69. Heading C7B, A coloured oxide film is produced on aluminium metal or alloy by anodic oxidation in an electrolyte comprising maleic acid e.g. 10-40%, sulphuric acid 0À1 to 1%, and optionally oxalic acid 0À5 to 3% wherein the surface area of the cathode is between ¢ and 1/10 of that of the anode. The cathode may be made of graphite, steel, Al or Al alloy containing e.g. 5-60% Zn, 5-40% Si, 5-30% Mg or 10-40% Sn.
