Abstract

1,190,391. Hydraulic actuators. COCKERILLOUGREE-PROVIDENCE. May 30, 1967 [June 16, 1966], No.24914/67. Heading F1P. A loaded ingot-holding cradle 1 Fig. 1 is tilted anti-clockwise and beyond its over-centre position about two lateral horizontal pivots 2, on a fixed frame 5 Fig. 3 by retraction of a hydraulic jack 11b pivoted at 12d to frame 5 and connected by its rod 10, a lever 9, a link 8 and an arm 7 to the cradle 1 and supplied with pressurized oil from the oil space 13c of a gas/oil accumulator 13 through a line 14, 156 a change-over solenoid valve 16b when in its lower energized position and a line 17b until when the cradle passes the overcentre position and the valve 16b is automatically de-energized contraction of the jack 11b is continued by the gravity effect of the descending cradle whereby oil is forced from the rear end of the jack through a check valve 22b and valve 16b into the accumulator space, 13c thereby re-pressurizing the gas e. g. nitrogen in space 13a. The ingot 3 having been removed from the cradle 1 on to transport rollers 24, the cradle 1 is tilted clockwise beyond its over-centre position by extension of a second hydraulic jack 11a which during the above mentioned anticlockwise tilting movement was vented at both ends to a reservoir 20. The rear end of jack 11a is supplied from accumulator space 13c through a line 15a, the solenoid valve 16a when in its lower energized position and a line 18a, whilst the rod end of the jack is connected to reservoir 20 through a check valve 22a, a throttle valve 21a, a line 17a, valve 16a and line 19a. At the over-centre position valve 16a is automatically de-energized and during the continued extension of jack 11a by the cradle now tilting under gravity oil is forced from the rod and of the jack through valves 22a, 21a, 16a, and lines 15a, 14 to the oil space 13c of accumulater 13 thereby re-compressing nitrogen therein. During the whole of the clockwise tilting movement of cradle 1 both ends of jack 11b are connected to reservoir 20.
