Abstract
1,189,356. Fuels. APOLLO CHEMICAL CORP. 13 July, 1967, No. 32373/67. Heading C5G. [Also in Division F4] A composition for adding to residual petroleum fuels, or to coal or coke, which contain V, S, and/or Na, or for injecting into a furnace burning these fuels, to minimize corrosion and incrustation on furnace linings, boiler tubes, turbine blades etc. by the combustion products, comprises two constituents chosen from Al Mg, Mn, one in major proportions and one in minor, and iron in minor proportions. Oxides, hydroxides and carbonates are preferred, but bauxite and Mn-containing clays may be used, and organic salts of iron, and metallic iron. The element in the first constituent comprises 5 to 30% b.w. of the total additive and the element in the second and third constituents 0À35 to 10% b.w. The total additive includes a surfactant, diluting oil or solvent, a glycol, a gelling agent, a hydrophilic colloid and water, and Zr or its oxide or silicate, talc, Sb oxide, lime or dolomite, kaolin or organo-silicones may be added, percentage ranges being given. Typically, for a fuel containing V, the weight ratio of the element in the first constituent to the V content is 1:2, and of the second and third elements to the V content, 1:14 to 20, -and in the case of residual fuel containing 25 p.p.m. Na, 100 p.p.m. V, arid 2% S, the total additive amounted to 0.035% b.w. of the fuel. Specific examples of additives are given, and the preferred particle sizes of the three constituents.
