Web handling apparatus includes a free standing feeding unit 26 and a free standing receiving unit 11; the feeding unit including a web dispenser 27 and support means (e.g. bar 25); and the receiving unit including a receptacle having a horizontal platform 17 to support the web 29 dispensed in fan-fold form 30 the platform being movable vertically within the receptacle by the support means (bar 25). The platform 17, supported on arm 21 is releasably engaged by bar 25 by means of lip 22. The platform 17 is lowered in synchronism with the issue of web from unit 26 (which unit may be supplied by the output of a high speed line printer). In a further embodiment the movement of bar 25 may be controlled by a servo-system which senses the height of the stack 30.
