Abstract
1,188,491. Variable-speed gear. B. A. BUGAENKO, G. I. VLADINETS, and J. F. YANTSER. 3 Jan., 1969, No. 547/69. Heading F2L. In a reduction gear for a ship's anchor chain arrester, the output shaft 4 may be driven through a bevel planet differential 7 directly from an electric motor 2 via a worm and wormwheel 1, 3, or, manually via a handle 9, the worm-wheel 3 and handle 9 being formed with or connected to bevel gears 5, 8 forming the differential side wheels which mesh planet pinions 6 carried by the output shaft 4, reaction during power drive being taken by the side bevel wheel 8 which is additionally formed with a ring of teeth 10 meshing a rack 11 axially movable, against, spring bias 14, on torque overload i.e. when the anchor chain is gripped by the arrester, to operate a limit switch 16 to stop the motor 2. Drive of the arrester may then be effected via the handle 9 with the worm-gear 1, 3 providing reaction, the rack 11 having a segment of teeth removed at 12 whereby the rack may be rotated and locked, via a hand wheel 17, clear of the teeth 10 on gear 8 during manual operation, a torsion spring 19 serving to bias the rock back into engagement with the teeth 10 for resumption of power operation when the hand wheel 17 is unlocked and returned to its original position.
