Abstract

1,188,464. Automatic voltage control. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. Feb.12, 1968, No.6784/68. Heading G3X. A power supply providing a plurality of constant output voltages of varying degrees of regulation comprises a D.C. source 10; a Zener diode 13 connected across the source 10 in series with a resistor 14 to provide a first but low order of regulated voltage at terminals 16 and 17; a constant current circuit including complementary transistors and a resistor 25 inter-connected as shown and responsive to the first regulated voltage to provide a constant current which is passed through serially connected Zener diodes 40, 41 which provide a second stage of voltage regulation, the voltages of this stage being available at terminals 43, 45 and 44, 45; a further Zener diode 50, connected over a constant current device 51 to the input terminal 11 to provide a constant voltage between terminals 45 and 47; and a conventional oscillator circuit, including a uni-junction transistor 73 associated with a transistor 77, a capacitor 75, and resistors 78, 79, which oscillator is driven by the second voltage-regulated stage to produce an output for application to a Zener diode 63, by way of a transformer 81, a full wave rectifier, and a constant current device 64, to provide a further stage of voltage regulation, the voltage of this stage being available at terminals 61, 62.
