Abstract

1405497 Automatic voltage regulation RCA CORPORATION 8 Nov 1972 [2 Dec 1971] 51547/72 Headings G3R and G3X A voltage regulator circuit includes two transistors connected as a differential amplifier and biased respectively by a reference potential and the circuit output voltage. The first transistor is connected in series with a constant current transistor and supplies a control signal to a further transistor connected in series with the circuit output. As shown, a COS/MOS integrated circuit includes a reference voltage generator 50 and a regulator circuit 51. The generator comprises Zener diodes Z 1 , Z 2 and field-effect transistors N 1 , P 1 . A further FET P 2 ensures stable operation of the generator circuit which supplies reference voltages for the regulator 51 on lines 12, 13. The voltage supplied at a terminal 14 to a load is controlled by an FET N3 which is made more or less conductive according as the relative voltages on line 13 and at terminal 14 cause FET P 4 or FET P 5 to be conductive. Thus transistors P 4 , P 5 form a differential amplifier receiving current from source transistor P 3 which delivers a substantially constant current. Transistor N 2 also forms a constant current generator and presents a high impedance to signal currents, thus producing a high loop gain. The circuit is constructed so as to provide a temperature-independent voltage output.
