Abstract

1343251 Automatic voltage and current regulation MATSHUSHITA ELECTRONICS CORP 8 Maych 1972 [15 March 1971] 10803/72 Headings G3R and G3X A D.C. voltage regulator includes a series transistor with a Zener diode connected to its base. The regulator output voltage is used to produce a constant current supply for the Zener diode so as to ensure stability of the Zener voltage. In the circuit shown, a transistor 4 is supplied from a terminal 1 and provides an output at terminal 6, the base of the transistor being connected to Zener diode 2. Initially, the diode 2 is energized through a resistor 17, and the output voltage at terminal 6 produces a voltage at a point b of a voltage divider 7, 8 which biases an emitter follower transistor 9 and supplies a base signal for a further transistor 11. The collector current of transistor 11 is stabilized by the Zener voltage at the diode 2, so that the bias on transistor 15 is also stabilized and a constant current is supplied through this transistor to the Zener diode 2 independent of supply voltage variations. A diode 14 provides temperature compensation.
