Abstract

1,105,259. Automatic voltage control. GOERZ ELECTRO G. m. b. H. Nov. 2, 1965 [Dec.10, 1964], No.46395/65. Heading G3R. A voltage regulator comprises transistor Tr1 and Tr2 connected in series between input and output terminals; transistor Tr1 is controlled in dependence upon output voltage variations by a conventional control circuit D, V; the base of transistor Tr2 is connected over a resistor R2 to its collector, and over a diode D2 to the negative terminal of an auxiliary voltage source UH having its positive terminal connected to the emitter of transistor Tr1. The values of the components and the voltages are so chosen that transistor Tr2 is short-circuited while transistor Tr1 exercises the control function until the voltage across it reaches a maximum permissible value; if the voltage across the series transistors then increases further, diode D conducts and the base of transistor Tr2 assumes the negative potential of source UH. The further increase in voltage is then taken up across transistor Tr2, the voltage across Tr1 remaining at the maximum permissible value whereby the latter transistor is protected against excess voltages. A modification using three series transistors is described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown).
