Abstract

1,188,124. Rotary pumps. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. July 26, 1967 [May 16, 1966], No. 21629/66. Heading F1F. A rotary pump of the kind comprising a body 10, Fig. 3, having a cylindrical cavity 11, a hollow body 12 mounted for rotation within the body about an axis offset with respect to the cavity axis so that the outer wall of the member 12 sealingly engages the cavity wall between an inlet 13 and an outlet 14, a spindle 15 concentrically mounted within the cavity and a plurality of vanes, two 16, 17 shown, which sweep the cavity 11 and sealingly engage its wall. The vane 16 is mounted on the spindle 15 by means of spaced roller bearings 21, and a sleeve 20 to which is affixed clamps having portions 22a, Fig. 2 fixed to the sleeve and portions 22b to the vane. The vane 17 and any other vanes are secured to a clamp 25 which through a plain bearing 26 on the sleeve 20 between the clamp portions 22a can move angularly relative to the vane 16. A labyrinth seal consisting of a series of grooves running parallel to the spindle 15 in the cavity wall between the inlet and outlet may be provided.
