Abstract
1,188,100. Fluid operated motors. DINGLERWERKE A. G. Oct. 1, 1968 [Oct. 7, 1967], No.46529/68. Heading F1P. A fluid operated motor for varying the pitch of a ship's propeller of a blower impeller comprises a piston 3 in a cylinder 1, the piston having on its periphery, oppositely directed conical washers 5 arranged to lock the piston to the cylinder in the absence of a pressure differential across the piston. The conical washers carry cylinder wall engaging braking shoes 6 on their outer peripheries and are held in the piston 3 by a spacer 7. Each conical washer 5 resists movement in one direction by tending the flatten when the cylinder attempts to move relative to the fixed piston. When pressure is applied to chamber a or chamber b thereby to re-position the cylinder, an end plate 2 in that chamber is forced into abutment with the adjacent washer to deflect it radially inwards and thus nullify its locking action. Since the other washer only exhibits locking action in the other direction, the cylinder is moved. The piston and cylinder may rotate with the piston rod 8.
