Abstract

1,187,708. Portable containers. MASTEREEL INDUSTRIES Inc. 15 Nov., 1968, No. 54257/68. Headings B8D and B8P. A container for film reels and the like comprises two identical parts, each comprising a main wall 20 and two rim portions, one portion 21 extending substantially half way around the periphery of the main wall and the other portion 23 being inset from the periphery by an amount equal to the thickness of the rim, so that when the container parts are interfitted the rim portion 21 of each part is outside the rim portion 23 of the other part. The rims carry locking means which interengage when the parts are interfitted, and as shown, the locking means comprise tongues 32 on the edge of the rim portion 21 and recesses 33 in the base of the rim portion 23, but the tongues 32 could be replaced by a continuous ledge in which case the recesses 33 would be replaced by a ledge extending along the upper end of the rim portion 23. The parts are retained in their assembled condition by latch plates 30 on each portion having abutting edges 31. The corner of each part adjacent the plate 30 is formed as a handle 27, registering holes 40 being provided for the reception of the wire of a security seal. To open the container the handles 27 are pulled apart sufficiently to separate the edges 31 of the latch plates 30 so that the parts can pivot about an axis adjacent the adjoining edges 24, 25 of the rim portions, thus disengaging the locking means and permitting the parts to be separated.
