Abstract

1,187,577. Treating with radiations. K. FRITZ. 16 March, 1967, No. 61187/69. Divided out of 1,187,019. Heading A5R. [Also in Division H4] A microwave radiator device for medical use comprises two cylindrical elements, 1', 1", Fig. 1, which define a resonant cavity I in the form of a short cylinder closed at its lower end. Power at a wavelength # is is fed by a co-axial cable C to the cavity, which has an axial electrical length of #, although its physi- . 4 cal length may be reduced by filling it with dielectric material. As described, the device is shaped to fit around the eye of a patient, and it is provided with a soft elastic covering or pad 4. The radiation diagram is as indicated by dotted lines R, and to reduce the effects of reflections from the surface of the body a second resonant cavity 3 is arranged inside the cavity 1. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) a slidable metallic tube is provided inside. The second resonant cavity, which can be moved towards the eyeball to shield it from radiation.
