Abstract
725,067. Containers for radio-active material. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. June 17, 1953 [July 2, 1952], No. 16683/53. Class 98 (1). Radio-active material is placed in a bent channel within a block of radiation-absorbing material, and is so arranged that it can be moved within the channel between a radiating position at the outer surface of the block and a retracted position within the block. In one form, Fig. 1, a U-shaped channel 2 is formed in a block 1 of radiation-absorbing material. A capsule 6 of radio-active material is moved along the channel by means of a flexible member 7 from the position shown to a position near the outer end of limb 3 of channel 2, or into a tube 5 forming an extension of channel 2. Alternatively, as in Fig. 3, a cylinder 9 is journalled in a block 8 of radiation-absorbing material, and the capsule 11 is connected to one end of a flexible member 12, which at its other end is attached to the cylinder. By rotating the cylinder the capsule is either extruded from the block or drawn into the interior thereof. The opening for the capsule 11 may be funnelled at 15, and may include a guide tube or channel 16.
