Abstract

818,688. Containers for radio-active preparations. UHLHORN & CO. GES., E. Jan. 24, 1957 [Feb. 16, 1956; April 16, 1956], No. 2636/57. Class 98(1) An irradiation appliance has a rotatable carrier for radio-active preparations. As shown in Fig. 1, a bar-shaped radio-active preparation 3 is mounted radially on a disc 2 mounted at one end of a tube 1 and rotated by an electric motor 4 through a flexible cable drive 5, 6. The disc 2 may have a screwed connection to cable 6, so that it may be interchangeable with carriers of different shapes. The disc may be enclosed by a radiation-permeable or radiation filtering jacket 7, which may be formed with a guide bar 8 for insertion into a body cavity. The rotation of cable 6 may be observed by means of a mark thereon visible through a window 1a in tube 1, or by optical or acoustic means. In modifications, (1) the carrier may be conical, with the preparation mounted on the outer surface in a: plane of the axis; (2) the carrier may be conical or spherical with two or more preparations mounted on the inner surface; and (3) one preparation is mounted on the outside of a conical carrier, and another is mounted in a guide tube similar to tube 8, and is shielded by an adjustable cylindrical shield. Protective shields of lead or the like may be mounted on opposite sides of jacket 7.
