L'objet de l'invention sera mieux compris à l'aide du dessin annexé qui représente schématiquement des modes d'exécution donnés à titres d'exemples non limitatifs.Sur ce dessin : la figo I montre un mode de réalisation d'un appareil d'irradiation conforme à l'invention, en vue latérale et en coupe partielle ; la fige 2 représente séparément le support de préparation de la fige 1 suivant une vue en plan ; la fige 3 indique une variante de réalisation d'un appareil d'irradiation conforme à l'invention,en vue latérale et en coupe partielle ;
La fige 7 montre un appareil radiologique d'irradiation avec un support cpnique et une tige de guidage, en vue latérale et une coupe partielle ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The subject of the invention is a radiological irradiation device which is particularly suitable for use in gynecology.
The known devices for irradiating with radioactive preparations were until now specially constructed for each particular case and only allowed the treatment of a focus of clearly localized disease each time.The dosage of the irradiation is moreover very irregular, of so that healthy tissue is frequently over-strained by radiation o
The object of the present invention is the creation of a radiological irradiation device which avoids the drawbacks of known devices of this kind and which also offers considerable advantages.
The radiological apparatus according to the invention is characterized by a support intended for radioactive preparations which is capable of performing a rotational movement, and controlled by a suitable device.
According to one particular characteristic of the invention, this support is constituted by a rotating element to which the radioactive preparation is radially fixed, advantageously in the form of a rod, preferably interchangeable.
Both a natural and an artificial preparation can be used as radioactive preparation. For this purpose, the gaseous, liquid, pulverulent or granular substances can be placed in sleeves or in cartridges made of a material transparent to radiation, or else again, activated metal rods are used. For the treatment of carcinomas, for example, iridium 192 can be used, which essentially emits soft gamma radiation.
Thanks to the invention, it is possible to achieve a dosage which can be said to be ideal, for localized foci of disease. In addition, with a preparation of relatively small dimensions, it is possible to embrace a large field of action.
The object of the invention will be better understood with the aid of the appended drawing which schematically represents embodiments given by way of non-limiting examples. In this drawing: FIG. I shows an embodiment of an apparatus irradiation according to the invention, in side view and in partial section; Fig 2 separately represents the preparation support for Fig 1 in a plan view; FIG. 3 indicates an alternative embodiment of an irradiation device according to the invention, in side view and in partial section;
Fig. 4 indicates separately the support intended for the preparation in accordance with Fig. 3 in a plan view
Figures 5 and 6 represent radiological irradiation devices with a conical support and in the shape of a cap ;, in side view and in partial section
Fig. 7 shows a radiological irradiation device with a cpnic support and a guide rod, in side view and in partial section;
Fig. 8 is a plan view of the irradiation device of Fig. 7
The radiological irradiation device shown in Figures I and 2 consists of a tube 1, at the end of which is mounted the support 2
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
for preparation, this support can turn around the tube.
The support 2 has the shape of a circular plate, and the radioactive preparation 3 having the shape of a rod is fixed on the plate, for example by means of leaf springs, in the radial direction. An electric motor 4 is used to drive and control the support 2 The rotary motion is transmitted from the motor shaft 4 to the support 2 by means of a metal cable 6 housed in a flexible tube 5 in whole or in part.
The metal cable 6 is secured at its end to a threaded part 6a, which is screwed onto the corresponding thread 2a, fixed to the support 2 for the preparations. Thanks to this arrangement, the supports for the preparations of different cheeses can be replaced easily and at any time
It is advantageous to surround, as shown in figo I, the support for the preparations of a rigid envelope 7 fixed to the tube 1 This envelope is made of a material transparent to radiation.
a radiation filtering material can also be used in many cases o It is therefore advantageous to mount 1 casing 7 also removably on the tube 1
The radiological irradiation apparatus in accordance with the invention can be used both for external irradiations and for those intended for the interior of cavities of the human body.
To irradiate these cavities, the device must be given a corresponding shape by known means, and be sized to adapt to this cavity.
If the device is to be used for the treatment of portrocarcinomas, preferably, on the casing 7, a guide rod 8¯ can be sterilized and intended to be introduced into the canal of the uterus.
The irradiation apparatus shown in Figures 3 and 4 comprises essentially the same parts as the apparatus of Fig. 1 However, in this embodiment, the support for the preparations is in the form of a conical body 9. radioactive preparation 3 is also fixed, for example by means of pressure springs, on the lateral surface of this cone, and in the same plane passing through the axis of the latter.
This provision is particularly suitable for the treatment of portio-carcinomas.
The rotation is controlled by means of a window 1a with which the tube I is provided, and which makes it possible to observe a mark placed on the metallic cable 6. Control by optical or acoustic signals is also possible.
In the embodiment corresponding to figure 59 the preparation support 10 has a conical shape On its internal surface are fixed different radioactive preparations 3a, 3b and d in the same plane with the axis of otatio In this way, it produces a convergent irradiation during rotation of the conical support 10 By using several separate radioactive preparations it is possible to vary the dosage and the depth of the radiation, for example by bringing into play one or two or three of the radioactive preparations. to direct the radiation, for example on three different foci in depth (A, B, C,) o
As shown in Figure 6, one can provide instead of the cone-shaped support, a body in the shape of a cap. In this embodiment, one can choose between one,
two or three radioactive preparations.
In this case, it is only possible to irradiate a single focal point situated at the distance A, but it is on the other hand possible to triple the dose, for example.
In these two embodiments, the drive is performed by a motor 4, the rotational movement of which is transmitted to the preparation support 10 by means of a metal cable 6, passing through a flexible tube 5.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
FIG. 7 shows how the guide rod 8 fixed to the casing 7 of the apparatus and serving, if necessary, as a bearing 15 for the rotary support of the preparation is arranged to receive the radioactive preparation 11
In combination with the radiation of the rotary preparation 3, an annular reinforcement of the dosage is thus produced all around the guide rod 8
It is possible to irradiate specific and circular regions separately, thanks to a movable screen 12 and having the shape of a ring.
In order to avoid damage to the tissues, the ring-shaped screen 12 is preferably disposed inside the walls of the guide rod 8 and can be moved by means of a projecting spout which slides in a slot.
For gynecological radiotherapy, there is also on the envelope 7 as seen from Figure 8 in order to protect the bladder and the rectum the protective screens 13 and 14 of lead or a material suitable and opaque to the radiation
It is understandable that the apparatus according to the invention applies to a particularly wide field of cases. This is how it is possible to obtain, with the same apparatus, an increase in the dosage at the point of convergence of the radiation, of so that the apparatus is suitable for example for the treatment of brain tumors or tumors in the region of the neck, nose and ears.
Finally, the apparatus according to the invention can find an application in the field of non-destructive testing of materials.
It is thus possible to treat, by means of a relatively weak radioactivity, a wide field. As a result, the measures required for protection against radiation are considerably simplified.
Likewise, the price of necessary radioactive preparations, for example radioactive isotopes, is considerably reduced.
The apparatus according to the invention is further distinguished by its particularly simple service and high operating safety. A particular advantage also resides in the fact that, following the simple replacement of the preparation support or of the envelope, or of some of their parts, or even (radioactive preparations, the same device can be used for several purposes.
