Abstract
1,187,572. Cavity resonators; transit-time tubes. LITTON INDUSTRIES Inc. 3 May, 1968 [5 May, 1967], No. 21193/68. Headings H1D and H1W. A tunable cavity resonator-incorporated in a klystron or magnetron for example-includes a piezo-electric device of which the piezo-electric material and the electrodes are accommodated internally, and are completely surrounded by the walls, of a housing, the cavity being defined by conductive internal surfaces of walls of the housing together with a movable wall portion coupled to the piezo-electric material. As shown, one wall of a rectangular or cylindrical cavity 1 is constituted by a conductive layer 12 forming an electrode coating a plate 8 of barium titanate coated on its opposite face with electrode 10 and supported on an insulating layer 9. Steady or alternating voltages are applied across leads 13 and 15 to vary the volume of the cavity. The insulating layer 9 may be dispensed with.
