Abstract
1,216,603. Piexoelectric resonators. MURATA MFG. CO. Ltd. 14 Feb., 1968 [23 Feb., 1967], No. 7205/68. Heading HIE. The active part of a piezoelectric resonator utilizing the "trapped energy" technique is protected from an encapsulating substance by a pair of caps which enclose the electrodes but do not touch them. In the PZT resonator shown, only the part between the electrodes 8, 8<SP>1</SP> is active. The rest of the plate 7 is piezoelectrically inactive and is provided with deposited leads 9, 9<SP>1</SP>and contact pins 10, 10<SP>1</SP>. Caps 11, 11<SP>1</SP> made, e.g., of rubber, synthetic resin or metal coated with a dielectric material, are placed over the electrodes and make contact with the inactive region surrounding the electrodes. An encapsulation 12 of, e.g., expoxide or phenolic resin is then applied by dipping or moulding. The invention may be applied to multi-resonator plates.
