Abstract

118.736. Goss Printing Press Co., (Goss Printing Press Co.), Nov. 7, 1917. Cylinder machines.-A travelling-cylinder flatbed web perfecting press is fed from a number of separate narrow web rolls instead of a single wide roll, the webs from the various rolls being fed to the impression cylinders by a single in-feed roller, separate adjustable devices being provided to press the webs into feeding contact with the in-feed roller. By this arrangement, the margins between the pages may be reduced in width and economy in paper effected. Each supply roll is provided with an automatic governor for keeping the tension of the web constant. As shown, two narrow webs 17, 25 pass from rolls 16, 24 round floating tension rollers 19, 27 to a single in-feed roller 21, and from thence through an equalizer 50 of ordinary construction round impression and guide rollers 51, 52, 53, 54, to the out-feed roller 55 provided with feeding tapes 56 and to the folding delivery apparatus. The webs are pressed against the in-feed roller 21 by sets of tapes 40 passing round a stationary roller 41 and a number of rollers 42, Fig. 6, carried by arms 43 of sleeves 44 rotatably mounted on a bar 46. The sleeves are independently adjustable to vary the piessure of the tapes on the roller, by screws acting upon arms 47 of the sleeves. The floating rollers 19, 27 are carried by blocks 32, Fig. 3, pro. vided with rollers 33 adapted to) run on bars 28. Arms 34 pivoted to the frame 23 so as to lie adjacent to the bars 28 are connected by means of arms 35 and links 36, to the arms 37 of brake shoes 38 adapted to co-operate with brake pulleys 39 on the roll spindles. When the tension of the web decreases, the rollers 32 run down the bars 28 and depress the bars 34, thereby applying the brake 38.
