Abstract

1,187,220. Casting-machines. G. L. WILLAN Ltd. 7 Nov., 1968 [11 Aug., 1967], No. 36980/67. Heading B3F. [Also in Division F4] A launder 3 incorporating a refractory nozzle 6 closed by a stopper 8 operated by a mechanism 9 is attached to and tiltable with an induction melting furnace 1 about an axis 20 from a non- operative vertical position to a horizontal pouring position, Fig. 3, wherein molten metal is discharged into a mould 22 positioned within a container 23 in a receptacle 24 engaged with the launder 3 through a seal 33. The container 23 is raised by a screw 28 so that the mould engages a refractory sealing gasket 31 surrounding the nose of the nozzle 6. Prior to pouring, the receptacle 24 is evacuated through an outlet 36 with a shut-off valve 37. The mould receptacle 24 is carried by a fork lift trolley 25. In an alternative arrangement, the induction furnace is replaced by an electric arc furnace (38) which pours into an ingot mould (49) in an evacuated receptacle (50).
