Abstract

1,186,096. Polyacetal compositions. CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS A.G. 26 July, 1967 [28 July, 1966], No. 34318/67. Heading C3P. Polyacetals, i.e. oxymethylene or substituted oxymethylene polymers are stabilized by incorporating 0À001 to 10% of a substituted cyclobutenedione of the formula where Z<SP>1</SP> and Z<SP>2</SP> represent -NH 2 or -OH, or either of these groups in which the hydrogen atoms have been replaced by a wide variety of specified groups. The stabilizers may be used in combination with known stabilizers such as superpolyamides. A wide variety of substituted cyclobutenediones are specified, of which those exemplified in trioxan copolymers with 1,3- dioxacycloheptane or acetylated formaldehyde homopolymer are N,N<SP>1</SP> - di - n - butyl - diamo-, N,N<SP>1</SP> - di-tert - butyldiamino-, and N,N<SP>1</SP> - bis - (p - hydroxyphenyl) diamino-cyclobutenedionos. A trioxan-1,3-dioxacycloheptane copolymer is obtained by copolymerizing the monomers in bulk in a polyethylene bag in the presence of BF 3 .(C 2 H 5 ) 2 O.
