Abstract

1,184,555. Stitch-bonded fabrics. COURTAULDS Ltd. 18 July, 1967 [19 July, 1966], No. 32376/66. Heading D1R. A process for the production of a stitchbonded fabric comprises stitching through at least one layer of staple fibres with a shrinkable thread. The thread is then preferably shrunk by immersion in hot water or heating to a temperature of from 100‹ to 150‹C. The term 'shrinkable' is used to mean a thread having a shrinkage of at least 10% on subjection to such a shrinking treatment. The surface of the fabric so formed may be raised before and/or after the shrinking of the thread. The thread used is preferably nylon. In the examples given, cross-folded carded webs of polyacrylonitrile or wool fibres are stitchbonded.
