Abstract

1374184 Acrylonitrile fibres MONSANTOCO 21 Nov 1972 [22 Nov 1971] 53672/72 Heading B5B Freshly-spun, wet fibres containing a major proportion by weight of polymerized acrylonitrile is treated as follows: (i) Stretched to 3À5 to 7 times its spun length. (ii) Forwarded to a second stretch zone, taking at least 8 seconds over the forwarding. (iii) Post stretching the fibre at a temperature of 90‹ to 110‹ C. to a length of from 1À1 to 2À3 times the length after stretch (i). (iv) Shrinking the fibre to a length of 0À75 to 1À3 times its length after stretch (i), this being performed a temperature of from 90‹ to 125‹ C. (v) Drying the fibre. (vi) Cooling it. The fibre must be kept wet in stages (i) to (iv); to this end the stretching and shrinking may be performed in hot baths or in saturated steam.
