Abstract

[Also in Division A3] An adjustable buckle 18 Fig. 3 of a motor vehicle safety belt (see Division A1-A3 is formed from two rectangular rings 24 through which the ends 17, 23 of the straps 15, 22 are passed, the strap 15 being passed through a further two rings (32) (Fig. 4, not shown) hooked over an anchored hook (35) at the top of the vehicle. A child's seat 61 Fig. 12 may be suspended on the safety strap by buckles 67 or the belt 15 may be passed through buckles 83A and 83B Fig. 15, the latter of which is hooked over a hook 80 on a child's seat 73. A clasp 38 Fig. 8 to hold rings 21 carrying the ends of the straps 15, 22, is comprised of a locking plate 53 mounted on a central post 50 of a base member 49, towards which it is urged to hold the rings 21 in position by a taper pin 56 engaging in a groove in the top surface of the plate 53. The clasp is opened by depressing the plate 53 against the action of a spring 54 and rotating the plate through 90‹ to locate the taper pin 56 in a shallower groove. Alternatively, a longitudinal groove in the under surface of the locking plate 43 Fig. 5 rotatable on a bolt 45 having a surrounding spring 46, is engaged with outwardly spring urged balls 48 on the base member 39 to lock the rings 21 in position.
