Abstract

118,349. Mylchreest, T. G. Sept. 17, 1917. Guards and protectors ; interconnecting guard or protector with starting-gear.-The casing of a carding-engine, breaker, or scutcher, or other like casing is made in curved sections b, b<1>, Figs. 2 and 5, adapted to slide in guides a<2>, a<3> on the supporting side - walls a<1>, one within another to expose or cover up the interior of the machine. The sections are provided with handles c, and are locked in the open or closed positions by spring and cam actuated bolts d adapted to engage recesses h in the side walls. The sections may be arranged all to slide in one groove which is sufficiently broad to allow one section to move one another. The sections of the cover are locked in the closed position whilst the belt is on the fast pulley by a hand- !ever 3a, Fig. 4, with a catch 3<b> passing through holes in the two sections of the cover. The lever is connected to a pivoted latch 5 engaging a stud 7 on the strap fork lever 8. The return of the belt on to the fast pulley is prevented whilst the covers are open as illustrated in the dotted line position on Fig. 4.
