Abstract

1,182,785. Builders' hoists; winches. WICKHAM ENG. CO. Ltd. 4 Jan., 1968 [16 Nov., 1966], No. 51265/66. Headings B8B and B8H. [Also in Division F2] A wheeled platform hoist comprising a winch drum 6 mounted on a lever operated eccentric mechanism and movable between positions of contact with a driving roller 7 and a brake shoe 34, includes a mechanism for automatically applying the brake shoe 34 to halt the drum 6 when the platform 15 of the hoist has been lowered to a predetermined level. Upon reaching said level, a finger 21 on the back 14 of the platform displaces a lever 23 pivoted to the framework 3 of the hoist, which through a chain 24, spring 27 and a further pivoted lever, applies the brake shoe 34 to the drum. The brake shoe 34 which is biased away from a brake flange 6X on the drum 6, is pushed into engagement with the latter by a rod engageable by the said further lever. The rod extends through a resilient block which is compressed by an adjustable head on one end of the rod when the brake shoe is applied, the block thereafter automatically expanding again, causing tensioning of the spring 27 and release of the brake.
