Abstract

1,182,686. Developing and fixing electrostatic images. RANK XEROX Ltd. March 13, 1967 [March 17, 1966], No.46587/69. Divided out of 1,182,683. Heading G2H. An electrostatic image on a record web 37 is developed with finely divided heat fusible particles by a magnetic brush apparatus 46 and is then fixed by a fuser 47, the heated portion of which is movable away from the web to avoid charring of the web. The fuser is carried by rotatable end shafts having a pinion 143 meshing with a gear segment 144 actuated by a solenoid 148 to cause 180 degrees rotation of the fuser. A resistance heater screen 152 is controlled by a thermister (not shown). An unheated segment 153 is provided opposite the screen which is brought into contact with the web by 180 degrees rotation upon stoppage of the web. The magnetic brush apparatus has a container 129 housing oppositely rotating agitators 134, 136 which feed coloured toner and carries particles to a rotating non-magnetic shield 133 for a magnet 132 and steel bar 139. A counter electrode supplied with a biasing voltage is positioned on the opposite side of web 37. Specifications 1,182,683, 1,182,684 and 1,182,685 are referred to.
