Abstract
1372999 Developing apparatus INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 2 Nov 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 50457/72 Heading G2H In an electro-photographic apparatus depletion of toner in the toner supply 33 is monitored by measuring the loss of electrical charge from the supply. The developer station 19 is earthed through lead 57 such that as charge is removed from the supply 33 with the removal of toner an equal charge returns to the developer through lead 57. The current in lead 57 is integrated by amplifier 59 and a charge builds up on capacitor 61. When the charge reaches a predetermined level a level detector 63 initiates a timer 65 which provides a gating signal to drive a motor 67 for a pre-set time. Motor 67 rotates a dispenser member 69. In an alternative embodiment the current in lead 57 passes through a resistor and the toner replenishing means includes a direct current motor connected across the resistor so that the angle through which the motor rotates the dispenser is proportional to the integral of the current flowing in lead 57.
