A rotary offset sheet fed printing press is operated in such a manner that an inking unit A supplies ink to a plate on a plate cylinder B which inks a blanket cylinder D, and the printing plate is inked twice in one working cycle, and two layers of ink are transferred to the blanket cylinder before being transferred to a sheet carried on a portion of the periphery of the impression cylinder E angularly adjacent a rebated portion of said periphery. The diameter of the impression cylinder E is twice the diameter of the plate cylinder B and of the blanket cylinder D and the periphery of the cylinder E has a rebated portion 1, 2.
