Abstract
1,182,271. Electric coupling contact. SEALECTRO Ltd and S. T. DEAKIN. 6 April, 1967 [13 April, 1966]. No. 16225/66. Heading H2E. An electrical plug contact comprises a piece of resilient sheet or strip metal 19 bent to tubular form with a longitudinal opening 20 along one side, there being, at the sides of the opening, portions 21, 22, of the sheet or strip bent back to lie around but spaced from the external surface of the tube to provide resilient radially deformable contact surfaces. Such contact surfaces may be formed in conductive contact on a stem to form a shorting plug, or as mutually insulated contacts, or as contacts electrically connected through an electrical device carried by the plug such as a lamp or diode, in which latter case, (Fig. 3, not shown), upper contact surfaces are retained on an insulating stem (31) by rings (32), and lower contact surfaces are retained by soldering to a central conductor (35) moulded in the stem. A resilient plastics cap may be provided on the plug. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 4, the portion of the conductive stem 42 above the contact surfaces 41 has an enlargement to provide a housing for a device, and into this enlargement an insulating stem 43 with head 44 is inserted to sit in portion 40. The insulating stem is held in position by tags 47 which engage in recesses 48; or by studs or pipes (55, Fig. 5, not shown) in the enlarged part of the body. Further recesses 52 are provided to engage with tags 51 to retain the second contact member 50 with its connection tag 53 and contact surfaces. The resilient material of the plug contact may be beryllium copper.
