Abstract

1,180,992. Drafting rollers. WARNER & SWASEY CO. 29 June, 1967 [12 Sept., 1966], No. 30001/67. Heading D1D. Drafting rolls 16, 18 are adjustably spring loaded towards each other with a preset load. The roller 18 is mounted in fixed bearings 25, 26 and the roller 16 is mounted in vertically movable bearings 23, 24. The bearings 23, 24 are acted on by pivoted levers 40, 41 the top ends of which are pivoted to housings 52, 62. The housing 52 contains an adjustable abutment 74, a collar 54 provided with a pointer cooperating with a scale and a spring 72. The collar 54 cooperates with a screwed rod 58 whose other end is rotatably but not axially movable in the housing 62 by a handwheel 68. In use the abutment 74 is screwed into the housing 52 to load the spring to a figure indicated by the pointer and scale without however, moving the levers 40, 41 to load the roller 16. The handwheel 68 is then turned to move the levers 40, 41 together until the collar 54 is just free of the abutment 74 and the full indicated load is applied to the roller 16. A switch may be actuated simultaneously with the application of the load to light an indicating lamp.
