Abstract

1,180,328. Oscillating motors and generators. UNITED STATES TIME CORP. 30 Aug., 1968 [28 Sept., 1967], No. 41663/68. Heading H2A. [Also in Divisions G3 and H3] A watch movement comprises a balance 22 to which are attached a pair of magnets 34, 35 embracing a toroidal coil 36. The movement of the magnets induces a sinusoidally varying voltage in the coil which is connected to an electronic circuit, Fig. 7 (not shown). The circuit is arranged to provide a pulse to a solenoid 18 at the termination of the clockwise swing of the balance. The armature 19 of the solenoid rotates an index wheel 11 attached to the first wheel 10 of the watch gear train. At each indexing movement of the wheel 11 a bush 32 attached to the wheel 11 and an arm 31, rotates the arm 31 to wind a hairspring 28 thereby maintaining the oscillation of the balance. Instead of the solenoid, a stepping motor may be used and a battery, a solar cell or a rechargeable cell may supply the electronic circuit. In a modification, a small flat coil is used and the magnet may be fixed and the coil attached to the balance.
