Abstract

830,977. Oscillating electric motors. RICH, W. June 1, 1956, No. 16950/56. Class 35. [Also in Group XVIII] A battery-driven electric clock comprises an electromagnetically maintained balance and a polarized armature which drives the train and motionwork. The balance comprises an armature 1, Fig. 1, mounted on a spindle 2 and oscillating in a first magnetic field 7 of an electromagnet 8. Rotating in step-by-step manner in a second magnetic field 9 of the electromagnet 8 is a polarized armature 5 which, through gearing 10-15, drives the minute hand 17 connected through the motion work to the hour hand 23. The minute wheel 15 is frictionally mounted on the shaft 16 to allow for hand setting and is fixed to a pinion 24 which meshes with a gear 25 to wind up an alarm spring within a barrel 27 which drives the alarm train 29, 30 controlling an alarm anchor and hammer 37. The alarm release is effected by a snail cam and follower arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown). The contact arrangement for periodic energization of the electromagnet 8 comprises two pins 48, 49 which co-operate respectively with two spring fingers 46, 47 to form two switches in circuit with the battery 56 and the coils 52, 53 of the electromagnet 8. The switches 46, 48 and 47, 49 are allowed to close alternately by oscillation of a member 45. A pin 43 extends from the member 45 and co-operates with a pin 42 on the balance 1.
