Abstract

1,180,305. Valves. K. KITAZAWA. 18 March, 1968 [20 Oct., 1967], No. 12941/68. Heading F2V. In a butterfly valve, the closure member 8 is formed from two discs 9 which are smaller in diameter than the internal diameter A of the cylindrical valve casing 1 and which have disposed therebetween, and projecting therefrom, an annular elastomeric packing 12. A pair of U-shaped shaft receiving members 10 are secured to the outer face of one of the discs 9 in diametrically opposite positions and adjacent the disc periphery and serve to define, with the disc face, rectangular spaces 11 which are adapted to receive similarly shaped, rectangular, but smaller in width, disc engaging shaft portions 7<SP>11</SP> and 15<SP>11</SP>, the former of which portions is bevelled at 7<SP>111</SP> to facilitate assembly of the valve closure member and shafts. In operation, the valve closure member may be displaced in relation to the shafts 7 and 15 thereby permitting a fluid-tight seal to be established between the cylindrical inner periphery 1<SP>1</SP> of the valve casing and the closure member when the latter is moved to its closed position, such displacement being made possible by virtue of the difference in size of the spaces 11 and the shaft portions 7<SP>11</SP> and 15<SP>11</SP>.
