Abstract

1,232,817. Hot gas engine. PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. May 29, 1968 [June 1, 1967], No.25722/68. Heading F1S. [Also in Division F2] A spherical plug valve is provided with seats 3, 4, 5, 6 each of which consists of an annular part 9 made of low friction synthetic material such as P.T.F.E. sandwiched between radially inner and outer metal sleeves 7, 8 without being attached to these sleeves. A spherical end part 9 engages the plug, whilst the other end bears through a resilient packing 11, 12, 13, 14 on a part rigid with the valve housing 2. As shown in a valve applied to a hot gas engine (See heading F1S) four seats at 90 degrees are provided. The packings are arranged so that upstream pressures on the seats tend to keep them against the plug, and in the case of the pair of seats 4, 6 the packings are of different diameter so that the resultant force is always in one direction. The sleeves present radial deformation of the part 9 especially in partly closed positions of the valve.
