Abstract

1,180,028. Two-part couplings. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 5 June, 1967 [8 Aug., 1966], No. 42683/69. Divided out of 1,180,027. Heading H2E. A connector for interconnecting flexible printed circuits comprises plug members 12, 12a which support the flexible printed circuits 20, and a socket part 36, with which the plug members are releasably engageable, carrying conductive terminals 38 which engage exposed conductive areas of the flexible printed circuits and interconnect them. Each plug part comprises a rib 17, projecting beyond the base of the plug, having longitudinal grooves 19 in its top and bottom surfaces and having its outer edge 18 rounded. The printed circuit is bent around the rib 17, fitting into grooves 19, so that the exposed areas are correctly positioned on rib 17 and the base of the plug is injection moulded in synthetic resin around the ribs to secure the printed circuit in position. Alternatively the base of the plug may be in two parts which can be held together by screws to clamp the printed circuit in place on the rib.
